A beautiful signed Santa Clara Pueblo blackware pottery vessel by Johanna Herrera and Anthony Baca, known for their collaborative carved and polished Santa Clara pottery.

Their work is documented in Native American art galleries and auction records, including miniature blackware pieces with carved geometric and arrow designs. 

This petite piece measures approximately 3.25" wide × 1.5" high and features a low rounded form with a rich polished black surface.

Deeply carved arrow-like and geometric motifs sweep around the body, creating striking contrast between the glossy polished areas and recessed matte black clay.

The underside is hand-signed/inscribed “Johanna & Anthony Santa Clara,” identifying the artists as Johanna Herrera and Anthony Baca of Santa Clara Pueblo. A remarkably similar documented example measuring 3" wide × 1.5" high was cataloged by Case Auctions as a miniature blackware pot with carved arrow decoration by the same artists. 

Small in scale but visually commanding, this piece would make a wonderful addition to a collection of Santa Clara Pueblo pottery, Native American pottery, Pueblo blackware, signed artisan pottery, Southwestern art, or miniature pottery.

Condition

Very good preowned condition with light surface wear consistent with age and handling. There are two very tiny raised clay dots—one on the rim and one on the side—which appear consistent with handmade forming or firing irregularities rather than later damage. No significant chips or cracks noted.

The handmade nature of the pottery may result in subtle variations and irregularities that are part of its individual character.
